We sat down to talk with the Chair and Vice-Chair of our H.O.L.A. (Hispanic Organization for Leadership Development) Employee Resource Group (ERG) to learn how they're creating a space to advance our Latinx | Hispanic employees.
Please introduce yourself
Hola, I am Reni De Leon Fox, and I'm a Senior Learning Designer on the Talent Investment & Culture team. My role within H.O.L.A. is leading our growing ERG. Outside of work and our ERG, my other title is “mama” to my son Oscar and my two fur kiddos, Maple and Mocos.
Hola, I’m Maximillian Madero, Champions Area Manager located in Houston, TX. I also have the privilege of serving as the Vice-Chair, partnering with Reni on all things ERG! I love spending time with my wife Cecilia, my son Ozzie and our miniature dachshund Bennie!
What is the mission of the H.O.L.A. ERG?
H.O.L.A.’s mission is to create a safe and brave community that is committed to the advancement of Latinx | Hispanic employees through creating community, advocating and supporting career advancement, helping with employee retention/attraction and supporting broader community efforts to enhance the lives of the Latinx | Hispanic community. It also provides an avenue for allies to practice active allyship.
How are you working toward that mission?
We are hosting several upcoming events, including leadership events; Cafecito (our informal connection time); Virtual Lotería and Zumba. We also have a few working groups that are forming around topics related to our ERG mission like supporting both our Latinx | Hispanic employees and broader community. More to come on this and other exciting events in the works.
Are there opportunities for allies to get involved with the group? What does that entail?
We are open to allies and currently have several allies that are part of our ERG. Allies attend our meetings and events. If anyone wants to join as an ally and has questions, we encourage them to contact us or better yet just join an upcoming meeting to check us out.
Is there anything else you want employees to know about H.O.L.A.?
We are looking to grow! We encourage employees to join our ERG. We're particularly looking at getting more center directors, area managers, district leaders and teachers involved.
