PrideSpace Employee Resource Group focuses on advocacy and representation
Posted by KinderCare Jobs
We recently chatted with the three co-leads of the PrideSpace Employee Resource Group to learn how they're committed to prioritizing inclusivity and supporting our LGBTQIA+ employees.
Please introduce yourself
My name is Tara Grieb and it's such an honor to Co-Chair our PrideSpace ERG. This has been a massive learning opportunity for me, and I welcome the ability to learn and grow while supporting my community. We have made our first steps into this space and have a lot more planned. I am an advocate for these communities in an enterprise and am proud to also be a member of ACCESSability ERG. Visibility matters and I am so thrilled to be able to help grow diversity in all its forms in this enterprise.
I'm Laura Murr and I'm the Co-Chair of PrideSpace ERG. I have been privileged to lead a diverse team of individuals who are passionate about fostering inclusivity and support for LGBTQIA+ employees. Together, we have successfully implemented various initiatives, such as workshops, mentorship programs and awareness campaigns that aim to create an equitable and welcoming environment for all. By leveraging my skills in project management, communication and advocacy, I am committed to championing diversity and driving positive change within our organization. My name is Doug Martin and I'm Vice Chair. This role has been a positive challenge for me to grow as a member of the community who’s felt imposter syndrome before and after coming out. It's my goal, aligning with those of the ERG, to make KLC a welcoming place for all individuals regardless of their sexual or gender identity. I’d like to see us have a seat at the table and representation across all levels of the organization. As a leader in early childhood education and before and after school space, KLC has the opportunity to set precedence for the inclusion of our diverse community among our employees, families, schools and partnerships.
What is the mission of the PrideSpace ERG?
We strive to build an inclusive and safe space for all LGBTQIA+ employees at KinderCare Learning Companies. As an ERG, it is our priority to ensure that all LGBTQIA+ employees across our organization feel represented, equal and proud to be part of our diverse community. At PrideSpace, we are committed to work with our leaders and allies to ensure that every LGBTQIA+ employee has the tools to succeed and feel a strong sense of belonging and confidence.
Q: How are you working toward that mission?
In our quest to promote LGBTQIA+ rights, we engage in educational workshops, ally training programs, and community outreach initiatives to spread awareness, challenge stereotypes and create inclusive spaces. We work hand in hand with leadership to ensure our organization values and embraces differences, because we firmly believe that diversity is not simply a buzzword but a powerful asset that drives innovation and excellence.
Q: Are there opportunities for allies to get involved and what does that entail?
Allies play a crucial role in supporting and amplifying the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community. Here are a few ways you can take part and contribute:
Educate yourself on LGBTQIA+ topics and issues by actively seeking information and understanding. Attend workshops, webinars, or training sessions organized by PrideSpace ERG to increase your knowledge and awareness of LGBTQIA+ experiences.
Participate in ERG Events: Attend and engage in the events, activities and discussions organized by PrideSpace ERG.
Volunteer for Projects: Offer your skills, time, and expertise to support PrideSpace ERG initiatives. Whether it's helping with event planning, marketing, or community outreach, your contributions can make a meaningful impact.
Use your privilege and platform to advocate for LGBTQIA+ inclusion and support within our organization. Be vocal about the importance of diversity, equal rights and representation. Share your support and stand up against discrimination when you witness it.
Be approachable, open, and receptive when LGBTQIA+ colleagues share their experiences or concerns. Actively listen and seek to understand their perspectives, challenges and needs.
Incorporate inclusive language and gender-neutral pronouns into your everyday conversations. This helps create an environment of respect and inclusivity, making LGBTQIA+ individuals feel seen and valued.
Is there anything else you want employees to know about PrideSpace?
All are welcome! We want you know that this ERG is set up for the community, so we welcome and benefit from member’s input and feedback in order to make PrideSpace as inclusive and impactful as possible.
