Jewish History Month Spotlight: Paige Sheppard
Posted by KinderCare Jobs
May is Jewish Heritage Month, and it serves as an opportunity to celebrate, learn and reflect on the culture, history, and far reaching contributions that Jewish people have made in our country. Check out this interview with our very own Paige on how she celebrates and honors her culture.
What's your role and how long have you been at KinderCare?: I am Recruitment Marketing Coordinator and have been with KinderCare for two years.
How do you stay connected with and honor your traditions and culture? Or, what is one of your favorite traditions to honor your heritage? One of my favorite Jewish customs is the celebration of the Passover holiday. Passover commemorates the Hebrew’s liberation from slavery in Egypt. During Passover, we have what is called a Seder which is a ceremonial dinner. It is filled with singing, traditional games, sharing of stories and delicious, symbolic food items.
As someone who identifies as part of the Jewish community, what are you seeing in the organization that helps you feel a sense of belonging? This is the first year that Jewish Heritage month is being acknowledged at KinderCare and I couldn’t be more thrilled about that. I am looking forward to seeing future efforts.
What do you think is important for people to know about your heritage? I think people should know about the Jewish Mitzvah. A Mitzvah is a good deed, with emphasis on positive thoughts or good wishes for others. Jewish people live by the Mitzvah, and are always looking for ways to give back to their friends, families and communities. I am very proud of that.
