Series: What it’s really like to work at KinderCare

One of the most challenging things about any job search is the “not knowing”. Not knowing what it’s really like to work there. Not knowing what the team is like. Or what the work is like. Or what makes people successful at the company. What are the characteristics or beliefs that the people who thrive at a company have in common.

This series is designed to undo all that unknown. We believe in transparency as a company and we think these ideas should be shared. We don’t want the work or the people or the company to be a mystery, so expect to see a lot of posts like this one in the coming months.

It’s probably easiest for us to write about what the work is like through the lens of our amazing teachers.

Being a teacher at KinderCare really is about building confidence for life. Our teachers at their core are caring and resilient. They care about the children and families in the centers. They spend their days ensuring the children in the center are engaged. That every moment is an opportunity to create teachable moments. Sometimes, this is difficult. Sometimes, people and children and tired, overstimulated, or overwhelmed. Our best teachers can read that room and adjust. They can take a challenging day and make it a win for the children, for their colleagues and for the families that trust them with the care of their children.

You see, our teachers know that you cannot do this job unless you care deeply about children, about teaching, about creating space for big and small emotions.

Like Meagan says:

“Getting hugs from the kids or giving them hugs if they’re having a bad day. When kids have challenging behaviors, I enjoy looking them in the eye and talking them through a bad choice, decision, or day in general and being able to connect and get to their level. It’s about making a difference and getting through to them.”

And because they care and because sometimes the work is challenging, the best of our teams of teachers are resilient. They bounce back. They take a difficult moment and a deep breath, adjust and resume.

Being resilient means knowing that there is a bigger picture. You know that the job is bigger than a tough moment. According to Cydney: “Working with kids is an adventure. No matter what, something awesome is going to happen. Even if you’re having an off day, you go into the classroom, you hear the giggles and joyful sounds and you can’t have a bad day.”

The work you would do as a KinderCare teacher means that you bring your whole heart to work and can see the bigger picture of the work you do and the impact you have on not just the children in the classroom, but the families that rely on you to care for their children while they are at work. It matters to the children, the parents, and the community.

If you have that caring and resilient spirit, we would love to talk to you. You have a place in our circle. Check out our open jobs and keep coming back to our blog to learn more about what it’s really like to work at KinderCare.
