Why I choose to work at KinderCare
Our team has recently embarked on interviewing some of our employees in an effort to help you better see and understand what it’s like to work here. We recently interviewed Cydney. Here’s what she had to say:
Q: Tell us about your career at KinderCare:
Cydney: I’ve been with KinderCare since August of 2018. When I started we just opened a new center so it was brand new when I started. I was working at a pediatricians office and was completely content. But, my friend called me to take a tour of the new center, I walked around the space and I was blown away. The company put so much care and detail into everything. I could just tell they want the best for the children and families so there was no way I could NOT work here.
When I started, I started out as a floater with the babies and then moved up with the toddlers. Throughout my time with KinderCare, I’ve been to every center in the state. I’ve seen how they are supported in so many different ways. You always feel like you have someone there; it could be your director, assistant director and co-teachers. You just never feel alone.
Q: What are some of the things the company got right in the last 18 months?
I would say, one of the biggest things is how well my directors and the company communicate why we are doing the things we are doing. They really provided us resources and media on how to help these kids. We were supported to have a conversation about a thing no one knows anything about. If we didn’t have something, we at least had something to refer to.
Q: What are the best parts of your day?
Cydney: It’s the kids. I love being a positive influence in their lives. I can take care of the things I can take care of. I love the team. You should always have your best friend at work. It’s awesome to see them everyday. They also make you feel super appreciated. There is always something fun that is going to happen. Working with kids is an adventure. No matter what, something awesome is going to happen.
Even if you’re having an off day, you go into the classroom, you hear the giggles and joyful sounds and you can’t have a bad day.
Q: Any advice for job seekers?
Cydney: Just dive in. I wasn’t in a classroom setting before joining KinderCare. I was so nervous that I wasn’t going to be able to support the kids and families; that was going to be good enough. But, I found a good center and took that leap.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, talk to your directors. Try out different age groups, try different roles. Try a lot of things.
We are all there to work together.
